I was banned because I misunderstood the rules?

Well, first of all the rule said first player kill is warning and kick and second is banned, and I just hit someone. Also, since there was talk of vampires and things like that, I was under the assumption that we were supposed to kill vampires because a bunch of people were following this guy around. Therefore, I have no idea why I was banned since the rules even stated that the first time is just kicking and warning. So please unban me, bk752
